The Tribe: A History, By Jonas Fein.

The Tribe formed in the fall of 2008 when Gittleman High School junior Ari Abramson approached his main man Jonas "He's So" Fein about getting some s**t started. A prominent figure within Gittleman's underground bohemian community (most of whom I don't care for and I don't get why Ari hangs out with them but whatever), Abramson decided that the scene was growing stale and needed some new life blown into it. Abramson was determined to start a band that would reinvent the way people look at bands but he needed a little help (no offense Ari, but sometimes you need a little help. I mean, you're the man and all but sometimes even the man needs help from . . . you know, like, another man).

Help came in the form of another man: Jonas Fein, the obvious choice for guitar and lead vocals (since Ari really wanted to play guitar Jonas agreed to play bass which he mastered in like a week). Being a band that doesn't like to conform to anyone's notion of "conformity" the Tribe (as Abramson and Fein were now calling themselves) chose Yossi Gluck, no one's idea of a rock star, to play drums.

"Between Ari and me, there was already a lot of rock & roll energy emanating from the Tribe," recalls Fein. "We wanted a drummer who wouldn't stand out so much but would carry a lot of the equipment. Also, Yossi is the only kid we knew with drums."

As any student of rock knows, a drummer without a tambourine is just a drummer. And a tambourine without a chick to shake it is just a dinner plate with bells. We didn't have a tambourine but we did have a chick: Yossi's younger sister Reena. She didn't have a tambourine either. But she could sing pretty well and we figured she could help us even out the guy/girl ratio of our fan base. Sometimes it's kind of awkward having her stand on stage with no instrument or anything, especially when we already have one singer, but people seem to like her and, as Shakespeare said, "Never look a Trojan horse in the mouth."

The Tribe has since gone on to rock the freaking world. But success has not gone to their heads.
